Bupa Windsor Park welcomes evacuees following flooding

Bupa has provided an update on its Windsor Park Care Home and Retirement Village in Gore after Civil Defence declared a State of Emergency in Southland as flooding continues.

The safety and wellbeing of our residents and staff is our highest priority. Bupa Windsor Park is on a highly elevated site in Gore and is currently in a low risk flooding area. Our residents are being cared for at Windsor Park and all our staff are accounted for.

We have welcomed 31 additional residents, with the majority from Resthaven Care Home, which was evacuated overnight. Resthaven staff are also working alongside our Bupa staff at Windsor Park to care for residents. We are also supporting some family members of residents who have been evacuated from their homes.

Additional Bupa staff, who have been evacuated themselves, or are off duty, are onsite to help with the additional residents from Resthaven and to support the care home and village.

We are also supporting St John Ambulance who are using our village community centre as a base. Everyone is in good spirits and it’s great to see our community coming together to support each other at this time.

We are regularly communicating with the Southern District Health Board and will continue to closely monitor for Civil Defence updates as the situation changes.

From Bupa Southern Operations Manager, Karry Durning.
