Bupa Asia Pacific today announced two Executive Leadership appointments, with Josh Byers named Managing Director of Bupa New Zealand and Angelo Loizou appointed Chief Financial Officer, APAC.

Mr Loizou will join the Bupa APAC Executive Leadership team as Chief Financial Officer, APAC.

During his 10 years with Bupa, Mr Loizou has helped transform finance functions in Australia and Hong Kong, earning a reputation as a trusted and people-focused leader. He played a leading role in transforming Bupa Hong Kong’s customer and financial performance and building a more sustainable platform for growth.

Mr Loizou will relocate to Australia with his family and be based in Melbourne from 1 January 2027. An update on the Finance Director role in Hong Kong will be announced in the coming weeks.

Mr Byers will take up his role from 1 January 2027, succeeding Pedro Sánchez, who will retire at the end of this year after 20 years with Bupa, including the past three years leading our New Zealand business.

Mr Sánchez joined Sanitas Mayores, Bupa’s Spanish aged care business, as Operations Director in 2006 and became General Manager in 2021. During his 17 years with the business, he helped drive substantial growth while championing innovation, person-centred care, and positive change in dementia care communities.

Over the past three years, Mr Sánchez has led Bupa New Zealand through significant transformation and change, strengthening its performance, market position and culture, and building a strong platform for growth.

A passionate customer champion, Mr Byers has been at the forefront of Bupa New Zealand’s transformation agenda, embedding innovation and building technological capability across the aged care business including launching Blua.

Bupa APAC CEO Nick Stone said the appointments followed extensive recruitment processes and reflected Bupa’s commitment to investing in its people, building leadership capability and succession planning.

Mr Stone thanked Damien Johnston for his contribution as Interim CFO, APAC. Mr Johnston has provided strong leadership to the Finance team. He will leave Bupa on 18 November with Bupa’s thanks and best wishes for the future.

“Josh and Angelo are proven leaders who bring deep knowledge of, and passion for, our business, together with a strong focus on our customers and people,” Mr Stone said.
