Bupa Ascot Retirement Village is well served with local produce

Bupa Ascot Retirement Village supports local growers every week.

Bupa Ascot Retirement Village has the pick of a wide selection of local Invercargill produce brought right to their door each week.

Local suppliers visit the village and bring their goods for purchase. The produce includes freshly baked bakery items, garden-fresh fruits and vegetables, and eggs.

When a resident enters the village, they are provided with a directory that lists all of the local suppliers and services.

Debbie Jamieson, Bupa Ascot Retirement Village Manager, says the success of the village comes from keeping local community involvement with strong connections to suppliers.

“Sometimes there’s a line of residents waiting to buy the organic produce and more than 100 dozen eggs are sold fortnightly. We’re lucky to have community suppliers come in but it’s also an opportunity for the residents to give back and support local,” Mrs Jamieson says.

The village is also busy with a number of activities including a walking group, exercise classes, movie afternoons, line dancing and indoor bowls.
