Bupa building healthy care homes and villages
Bupa has achieved a build standard of Homestar Level 6 for the new Bupa Foxbridge Retirement Village development in Te Rapa, Hamilton.
This is the first of Bupa New Zealand’s villages to receive the quality building accreditation.
The achievement comes as part of Bupa’s commitment to building healthy and sustainable communities, while supporting the optimal health of our residents and minimising our impact on the environment.
Andrew Eagles from the New Zealand Green Building Council made the certificate presentation to Bupa Head of Property Development Jamie Gibson and says Bupa should be commended for building a sustainable retirement village with a Homestar Level 6 rating.
“This rating provides assurance that Bupa Foxbridge is quality - warmer, drier, healthier. This is great news for New Zealanders as our population ages and we are wanting healthier and warmer aged care options,” Andrew explains.
Homestar is the comprehensive, national, independent system that rates the health, comfort and efficiency of New Zealand homes, on a scale of 1-10, at both the design and build phase.
A 6 Homestar rating or higher provides assurance that a home will be warmer, healthier and cost less to run than a typical new home. Homestar ratings are assessed by qualified professionals and certified by the New Zealand Green Building Council.
Ratings take into account energy, water, waste, ventilation, health and comfort, and other environmental factors.
Jamie Gibson says the Homestar Level 6 achievement is just the beginning for Bupa with plans underway to go even higher.
“We have some exciting care home and village developments in the pipeline across New Zealand and we’ll be striving to build a Level 7 Homestar very soon.
“This will continue our commitment to building care homes and villages that keep in warmth and are overall healthier for our residents,” Jamie says.
Other projects that are upcoming or underway and targeting a Level 6 or above rating are; Ashford, Totara Gardens, Napier, Parkstone, and Fergusson.
This not only delivers on ensuring comfortable and efficient accommodation for all residents, but also supports Bupa’s wider values and sustainability goals.
