Bupa supports expanded prescribing rights for registered nurses
Bupa supports the Government’s reforms to expand prescribing rights for registered nurses, helping Australians, particularly those in regional and remote areas, access essential medications more easily.
The proposed changes have the potential to ease pressure on hospitals and GPs, improve system efficiency, and bring Australia in line with international best practice.
In our submission, we emphasised the need for strong safeguards to ensure safe, appropriate prescribing, especially for higher‑risk medications, and the importance of nationally consistent regulation across states and territories. We also highlight the need for appropriate funding, training support, and Medicare arrangements so primary care, aged care and hospital providers can implement these reforms sustainably.
Bupa is committed to working with Government and the sector to ensure these reforms improve access while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality and continuity of care for all Australians.
