Bupa welcomes pay settlement for caregivers

Summary

Bupa welcomes the successful conclusion of the pay equity litigation and the Government's commitment to fully fund the increase for care workers in New Zealand.

"We await receipt of the full details of the agreement, however, it appears to be a positive sign for our people who deliver wonderful care to our residents.” said Ms Jan Adams, Managing Director of Bupa New Zealand.

This is a positive sign for the aged care sector, home support and disability services. We are pleased for our care workers in our care homes who provide an important part of the person centred care to our residents and clients.

There is still a further period of consultation to take place between the Unions and caregivers to fully understand the practical implications of the settlement.

Bupa employs over 4600 people in its care homes and rehabilitation centres across New Zealand and a large number of these people are care and activities staff. Once we understand the details of the new arrangements, we’ll communicate further with our people.

The increase will be effective from 1 July 2017.
