Can glasses change someone's life?
By Andrew Chia from Bupa Technology team.
As someone with years of experience in Information Technology, I’ve always sought opportunities to challenge myself beyond my professional comfort zone.
When Bupa announced the opening of registrations for eco-Disruptive 2024 with the theme ‘Healthy Societies’, I saw it as the perfect opportunity to step outside my current role and contribute to a cause that resonated deeply by working with an innovative start-up and a team of Bupa’s people from across Asia-Pacific.
Access to affordable glasses
As part of my team’s work, we were thrilled to discover OOXii Global, a start-up that is reshaping how we bring vision screening to the 1 billion people globally who don’t have access to affordable glasses.
OOXii’s mission aligns perfectly with Bupa’s purpose of helping people live longer, healthier, happier lives and making a better world. Founded by Dr. Sarah Crowe, OOXii’s Vision Kit enables basic health workers in remote communities to test vision and dispense glasses on the spot. This innovative kit is designed to work in areas where trained professionals are scarce such as Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu.
Vision screening and glasses for those who need it most
Joining forces with OOXii as part of eco-Disruptive 2024 is a unique opportunity for us to make meaningful strides in inclusive health by helping bring vision screening to the 1 billion people globally who don’t have access to affordable glasses.
For our Bupa customers, we see an opportunity to reach remote and regional customers across aged care and optical. By combining the power of technology, creative problem-solving, and sustainable social impact, we aim to ensure that vision care reaches those who need it most.
