Celebrating Chinese New Year in Aged Care

Chinese New Year was celebrated in style at Bupa David Lange Care Home in Auckland, and at Bupa Parkstone Care Home and Bupa Parkstone Retirement Village in Christchurch.

Bupa David Lange Care Home residents have been enjoying entertainment from a number of different cultural groups. The Sri Lanka and Philippenes groups performed traditional dances to music, the Indian group sang, danced and read poems to the residents, and the home even made a temporary Hindi temple for the festivities.

More than 90 residents came together at Bupa Parkstone Care Home and Bupa Parkstone Retirement Village to celebrate with an afternoon tea and entertainment from the Chinese Community Dancers and included a performance from violinist Selena Sun. The Bupa team also got involved by performing an authentic Dragon Dance.

“It was great to see the residents really embracing the different culture and diversity. They told me they enjoyed the dance and colourful dress,” Luannie Villegas, Bupa Care Home Manager said.
