Empowering independence in healthcare access

I’ve always been curious about how the world works around me and my passion to protect nature and wildlife aligns closely to Bupa’s purpose of helping people live longer, healthier, happier lives and making a better world.
With these drivers in my personal and professional journey, I was excited to participate in this year’s eco-Disruptive program to work on a solution related to Supporting Disability as part of this global Bupa competition.
As my team researched the subject, we gained a real appreciation for just how wide this opportunity is and considered several approaches, before landing on our start-up, BindiMaps.
Revolutionising indoor navigation
BindiMaps is an indoor mapping system usable on a mobile device that tailors a route to the user’s needs, using highly detailed, audio described maps, to support people of all abilities. The mapping is accurate to 30 centimetres.
We know that navigating complex and unfamiliar environments can be challenging and can add to anxiety, so we saw the opportunity through BindiMaps to support our customers and our people every step of the way in our facilities.
BindiMaps and Bupa
Our team, recently met with Dr Anna Wright, BindiMaps Founder, to determine how the indoor mapping could potentially be tested at a Bupa space.
We see many potential uses for BindiMaps across our Bupa businesses. From visitors navigating our aged care homes to patients at our dental clinics, or even new staff finding their way around offices.
For Bupa’s customers, BindiMaps could mark the beginning of a new chapter, one of enhancing independence. The challenge ahead is big, but so are the opportunities.
