Mayoral visit for resident celebrating special birthday

Waimakariri Mayor Dan Gordon recently visited Bupa Ballarat Care Home resident Lorna Creamer on a very special day.

It was Lorna’s 103rd birthday where the care home team had organised a cake, the Mayor, and her family to visit. The resident, who moved into the Rangiora care home five years ago, grew up in Kaiapoi and worked in the woollen Mills during her younger years.

Lorna is the granddaughter of Sir Michael Le Fleming and Lady Le Fleming. Sir Michael Le Fleming was a Baron to the Queen from Rydal Hall, England.

The 103 year old was also a big knitter in her time and would knit for her son Graeme Swarbrick and three grandchildren.

“Mum is well looked after and she had a big smile on her special birthday. To reach 103 is a great achievement,” Graeme says.
