NZ success at World Masters Games

Bupa Accadia Village manager Jan Davies tees off to a top ten finish at the World Masters Games in New Zealand.

Accadia Village Manager Jan Davies recently participated in the 2017 World Master Games that occurred on April 24-28.

Davies, 67, came sixth out of 96 participants in the Women’s 65-74 golf category.

She competed in three rounds which led her to qualify in the final 16 on Friday 28 April

“I really enjoyed competing with the best of my peers from around the world, some of whom I have played against before in other events,” she said.

“The women’s field tends to come from NZ, Australia, Korea, Japan, England, USA, Germany and South Africa and is usually of a high quality at the top.”

Davies said she has been involved with sport all her life and started playing golf 33 years ago.

“I took up playing golf 33 years ago after a major leg injury stopped me playing and coaching cricket,” she said.

The retirement village manager said Bupa’s employee wellbeing programme ‘Smile’ contributed to her reaching her “Worlds” level goal.

However, Davies said her success at the Golf 2017 World Master Games was all thanks to her colleagues.

She made the decision in December 2015 to improve her lifestyle and with the support of her Bupa colleagues began swimming regularly and eating well.

“It is with the unwavering support of my close work colleagues down the pool with me three times weekly that I have been encouraged to achieve these goals,” she said.

“Stamina and mental concentration are the most important aspects of these games – so every bit helps!”
