Showtime at Bupa Tamworth

Summary

Bupa Tamworth aged care residents were so disappointed in the cancellation of the local Show that they decided to hold their own this year.

Bupa Tamworth residents have a proud tradition of submitting entries into the Tamworth Show, so they were disappointed to hear it had been cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions this year.

The care home was determined not to let the restrictions stop residents from having some fun with their own Bupa Show.

The event held all the usual Best in Show categories including Arts, Handmade Craft, Floral Arts, Handiwork and Cake Decorating.

Good Start Early Learning Centre, the Tamworth Men’s Shed and Hillvue Public School all submitted entries, along with entries from residents, their relatives and employees.

Tim Whyte, Bupa Tamworth General Manager, said the day was a lot of fun for residents and the care home team.

“Many of our residents have been attending the show and entering different categories for years. We didn’t want that to stop just because of COVID-19,” he said.

Mr Whyte thanked those in the community who are supporting the event through donations or by submitting entries.

“We’re so grateful to all the community groups and organisations that have jumped onboard to help make this day special. Whether it’s participating in the Best in Show categories or donating prizes, it all helps to make a memorable event for our residents,” Mr Whyte said.

“It’s been a difficult year for our residents, but we’ve been working hard to make sure we’re constantly finding new ways to keep spirits up through our lifestyle activities.”
