Supporting patient choice through Hospital in the Home reform
Bupa is advocating the Commonwealth Government to accelerate “Hospital in the Home” (HITH) reform giving more people the choice to receive hospital-level treatment safely in their own homes.
Evidence shows HITH can deliver equal or better outcomes for patients, including lower readmissions and higher patient satisfaction. HITH also supports for rural and regional patients, enabling them to receive care in their communities
Even though HITH delivers benefits for patients, current funding models make it harder for private patients to access HITH programs. Bupa is calling for practical reforms to expand access, including improved Medicare support for telehealth, clearer service standards, and funding models that reflect the way care is delivered at home.
By making HITH more accessible, we can give patients more choice, reduce pressure on hospitals, and ensure high-quality care is delivered in the most appropriate setting.
