Celebrating 6 years of service to the Australian Defence Force.
This month marks the 6-year anniversary of Bupa’s partnership with the Department of Defence (DoD) in delivering vital health services that support the physical and mental wellbeing of Australian Defence Force (ADF) members and active reservists, along with Veterans and their families through the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA).
Since 2019, Bupa has provided an integrated healthcare system that supports and enables Defence capability, ensuring ADF members are ready to deploy in times of conflict and crisis.
Bupa has played an integral role in supporting the ADF in responding to a range of domestic national disaster and public health situations such as delivering critical care in rural and remote areas. This includes the Government’s national COVID-19 response and disaster recovery activities such as the 2020 Victoria, NSW, Queensland bushfires, the 2021/2022 Eastern Australia floods and Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred in 2025.
In a rapidly evolving global and regional security landscape, the importance of an adaptive and reliable health capability is paramount to operational readiness, Bupa is continuing to demonstrate value as a healthcare partner with more than 20 years of collective experience supporting Government.
Bupa Health Services Managing Director, Liz Curran said delivering a health capability that is able to adapt and pivot is crucial to supporting Australia’s defence objectives.
“We continue to work constructively and collaboratively with the ADF and DVA to deliver health systems, workforce and capability that supports their objectives today and into the future. This work has been complex, wide-ranging but above all, extremely meaningful for all of us at Bupa.

“Through this partnership, we have demonstrated a deep understanding of what is required to enable Defence capability, delivering a health system that supports both ADF members and operational requirements,” Ms Curran said.
This is currently being demonstrated through the support large-scale of Exercise Talisman Sabre which brings together participants from 19 nations and consists of live fire and field training exercises, force preparation activities, amphibious landings, ground force manoeuvres along with air combat and maritime operations.
"We are steadfast in our mission to protect and enhance the physical and mental wellbeing of our Defence community, under all conditions and in any location required around Australia.
“I would like to take this opportunity to recognise the outstanding efforts of our healthcare workforce operating in ADF bases around Australia as well as in the community. Their collective role, supporting the health of our Defence community is to be commended,” Ms Curran said.
Like other Defence partners, Bupa’s service is subject to regular reviews and audits to ensure best practice levels of healthcare is provided.
Bupa’s support has also expanded to DVA during this time, including supporting the delivery of critical transition health programs, clinical advisory services and a community-based mental health provider network in support of Open Arms Veterans and family counselling services.
