Whakatane Emergency Update

Please find the latest updates below on the evolving Whakatane tsunami warning situation. 

1:36pm - Friday 05 March 2021 

The tsunami threat to coastal areas of New Zealand is now lowered and our Whakatane based Mary Shapley residents and staff will return to their care home and village over the course of today. Beach and marine areas remain areas to avoid at this time.

Thank you to everyone who helped our response to this threat today.

 

 

 

11:05am - Friday 05 March 2021 

We are following the instructions ad under the guidance of Police and Civil Defence due to the threat of tsunami waves.

In Whakatane at our Mary Shapley site, this means moving location for some of our residents, in other cases we will be holding in place.

Due to the immediate evacuation order from Civil Defence and Police in Whakatane, we are moving all our Mary Shapley residents to a safe place. We are working with Police who are on site at the village and care home.

Please do not ring the care home at this time.
