Extended access to government funded dental treatments

Summary

Bupa Dental has welcomed the extension of the Federal Government’s Child Dental Benefits Schedule[1] which provides coverage for dental services to eligible children aged 0-18 years.

Now running for an additional 4 years, the Schedule provides cover up to $1,026 over 2 calendar years for basic dental services such as check-ups, fillings X-Rays and more. This comes amidst recent research revealing over 40% of children aged 5-10 years are living with tooth decay[1].

Bupa Dental Care Director, Ros Blakley said the extension will help make dental care accessible and affordable for Australian children at a time when many families are struggling with cost-of-living pressures.

“Ensuring children grow up with regular check-ups from their friendly local dentist give them the best chance of growing into adulthood with healthy teeth and gums which can also positively impact their general wellbeing.

“While our practices offer check-ups with no out-of-pocket costs for families with eligible health insurance policies, we recognise not everyone has coverage or stress-free household budgets. That’s why we welcome any and all initiatives that help ease cost of living pressures which can be a real barrier to healthcare,” said Ros.

Along with regular dental check-ups, brushing twice a day and maintaining a healthy diet are important parts of maintaining a child’s oral health which is closely associated with their general health.
