Reminiscing of weddings past with Bridal Fashion Show

Just before the alert levels began, one of our care homes held a spectacular fashion show.

Safety pins and quick stitching helped staff at Bupa Ascot Care Home into 15 wedding dresses and 4 bridesmaid dresses as they walked the aisle runway at their Bridal Fashion Show.

The dresses came from the private collections of the residents and team, where an almost 100 strong crowd included residents from Longwood and Riverton care homes. Family members helped behind the scenes to make a quick changes and residents walked the staff down the aisle runway in the lounge area to wedding music from Ed Sheeran.

Resident Gwyneth McMillan says seeing all the wedding dresses made her think of her own wedding.

“I thought it was very good and we were very lucky to have this event in our own home. Seeing the beautiful wedding dresses reminded me of my wedding dress my mum made me,” Gwyneth says.

The care home residents even made their own wedding dress for the occasion, made out of bedsheets, sequins, lace and tie dyed at the bottom. Afterwards the crowd enjoyed afternoon tea which was a freshly baked fruit cake – just like a traditional wedding cake.

Care Home Manager Charmaine Knight says everyone is still talking about the function and they’ll be looking to make it an annual event for the residents.
