The head of Australia’s largest private health insurer, Richard Bowden, warns short-term thinking on healthcare policy and a lack of bipartisan support could stifle much-needed sector reform.
Mr Bowden, who returned to the top job at Bupa’s Australian and New Zealand arm earlier this year, said while he talked to government about both long and short-term objectives, unfortunately the political focus was often pulled back to the short term.
“We need a 10-year, or longer, view and you need a bipartisan view on healthcare in a country like Australia,” he said.
